HUBBARD STREET SUMMER INTENSIVE

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago’s Summer Intensive program, held at Hubbard Street’s home in Chicago and at Halsey Hall on the University of Iowa campus, offers an intense, one-of-a-kind experience for advanced students with a passion for dance. Students attend daily ballet and modern classes and learn Hubbard Street and Hubbard Street 2 repertory, working with the artistic staff and dancers of the renowned Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.

HUBBARD STREET IN IOWA CITY

June 17 – July 12, 2013
Ages 14-17

Tuition: $1,900
Housing: $2,200

The Iowa City Program is a four-week intensive for advanced students ages 14-17.

Classes are held in Halsey Hall on the University of Iowa campus. Dancers meet for classes, 10am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Students attend daily ballet and modern classes, and learn Hubbard Street and HS2 repertory. Classes also offered include: Pilates, improvisation, discussions and more. There will be a showing on the last day of the program. Family and friends are welcome!

Housing and Meal Plan in Iowa City
Students will be housed at the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel, just a short walk from the studios. Housing fee includes daily breakfast and dinner, wireless internet, double-occupancy rooms with linen and cleaning service provided once per week and access to hotel amenities. Chaperone supervision is provided by Hubbard Street Dance staff.

The Chicago Program is a four-week program designed for advanced and professional level students ages 18-24.

Classes are held at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago's Lou Conte Dance Studio in the West Loop. Dancers meet for classes, 10am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. Students attend daily ballet and modern classes and learn Hubbard Street repertory. Classes also offered include: Pilates, improvisation, partnering, discussions and more. There is an informal showing on the last day of the program. Family and friends are welcome!

Housing in Chicago
Out of town students in the Chicago program have the option to be housed at the University Center dormitory in downtown Chicago. Housing fee will include bus and train transportation, and double, triple, or quadruple-occupancy rooms. Students will have access to all dormitory amenities including internet access, laundry facilities, fitness center, etc.

Audition fee: $15 - cash or check accepted (payable to Hubbard Street Dance Chicago).

  • Students are accepted into the Hubbard Street Summer Programs by audition only. Audition results will be sent by email within 2 weeks of the audition.
  • Registration for each audition begins 30 minutes prior to the audition start time, unless otherwise noted. There is no pre-registration for the audition, but please download and complete the Audition Form ahead of time and turn it in at the time of the audition.
  • Audition fee is $15, to be paid on the day of the audition by cash or check (payable to Hubbard Street Dance Chicago)
  • Please bring a dance resume and headshot. Headshots should represent what you look like in the studio. Professional photo not required or encouraged.
  • The audition consists of a ballet class, followed by Hubbard Street repertory. Most dancers will receive a full ballet class, unless the number of auditioners requires Hubbard Street to break classes into smaller groups.
  • No specific dress code is required for the audition. No pointe shoes needed.
  • Students who will be 18 years old by July 8, 2013 can audition with the 18-24 year olds; 17 year olds who will not be 18 years old by July 8 should audition with the 14-17 year old age group.
  • Students auditioning for the Chicago Summer Intensive will be considered for company contracts.
  • Video auditions are only accepted for our younger program on a case by case basis – to audition by video, please send a resume and dance photos to Krista Ellensohn. Because of the high volume of video audition requests, not all requests will be granted. Students are strongly encouraged to audition in person at one of the scheduled auditions.
  • A limited number of scholarships are available for students accepted into the Summer Intensives. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, and applications will be available to those who are accepted into the programs.
